I’m not here to sell you on anything — if you like the music, thanks! if you like talking about spiritual stuff, awesome! if you like history and trivia, fabumundo! But I’m not selling anything other than, well…I guess the word that comes to mind is: connection.
And then another word after that: community.
We all have a very unique journey in our lives. My observation is that how we live basically comes down to a fundamental choice we make each day, sometimes each hour or minute: that light is stronger than darkness or that darkness is stronger than light. This is my way of thinking about it, but it really means – does love (light) win in the end or does fear (darkness) win in the world (i.e., our lives)?
Some days I don’t know which side of the question I am on. That’s one reason why I released the “Jazz Hymns for Thanksgiving” project (and another one in the works for Easter). It’s part of my own exploration of what I actually believe these days.
There is no “right” or “wrong” choice. There is a more peaceful choice, of course, but it takes work. We’re all in this life together and we need connected community to understand why we believe (or don’t believe).
You probably already know all this, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this far, right?
