Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile”
I am the hugest Bruno Mars fan – the first time I heard the ride-out on “Uptown Funk,” I swooned. (OK, Mark Ronson gets some credit for that one). And then, when I attended the 2012 Grammys, I got to witness Bruno and his crew DANCE – OMG, get my smelling salts! He is keeping the art form of melody alive in today’s rhythm-machine-gun-lyric-hip-hop world.
The same could be said of Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, a.k.a. Lady Gaga. The fact that she said yes to singing jazz standards with Tony Bennett shows the girl knows good music. And, unlike many of the women dominating the charts now, has a Streisand-like ability to embody a song and make it emotionally hers.
So, it’s no surprise that this power couple came up with this power song (which just won the Grammy for Best Pop Duo Performance, BTW). The other songwriters on it are Andrew Watt and James Fauntleroy, who also produced the track.
Give a listen to the full track here. See below for my take on it…
Will you take the $$ bet I wager in the video??? 😊
Love,
